A Sleep-Drunk Love Letter to My Ex-Best Friend

I’m reading our favourite author. He still talks about magical cats and parallel universes. The other day I was drawing in my bullet journal but… while watching some random TV series.
It’s taking a lot of courage to write this. It has been two… three.. Four… I dont know how long we’ve spoken. There are several times I think about texting you. But our conversations will never be the same.

I remember struggling to get you on the phone. Pretty normal stuff happened to us, too. We grew apart.
I noticed our conversations sounded like two strangers lost on a train; busy finding our way to our seats.

I don’t know where you are. I don’t know what you are up to. But I hope you’re happy. I hope you feel at home. I hope you find meaningful connections not just acquaintances. I hope they find your care a blessing, your art of loving them.

I hope you still read our favourite author. He still talks about magical cats. I hope you bullet journal or at least draw for yourself. I hope you do all the things you love.

I pictured this day we would somehow be a family. Our husbands are best buddies. We’re their funny counterparts. We’d be living side-by-side in a swanky neighbourhood, no doubt. We’d be successful women in our own rights. Supporting each other with the brightest smile. Most importantly holding each other up in the darkest of times. Our bond was natural, organic and special. I never wondered about the expiry date. Who would ever put that on us?

But here I am sleep-drunk and lost. Counting the sweetest moments over the slightly bitter ones. I will watch you smile from afar. Fully satisfied that my being or not never shattered your heart.
